Last week’s onfield success did not go unnoticed as a trio from WSC earned league honors on Tuesday.
Conor McGlynn was selected to the USL League One Team of the Week for the fourth time this season, as was teammate Dean Guezen this week, while head coach George Gjokaj was selected as Coach of the Week for the second time this season.
McGlynn now has 14 goals on the season, putting him back atop the League’s Golden Boot race, and breaking the league mark for goals for a midfielder, which he had shared with Rafael Mentzingen, who had 13 for North Carolina FC in the 2023 season. He is also now three short of the club mark for goals in a season, set last year by J.C. Obregon with 17. McGlynn’s total of 18 in just under two seasons also makes him WSC’s all-time leading scorer in their two year history.
September 16 vs. Richmond was his third brace of the season, and second in the same half. His pair at home vs Corpus Christi was his first two goal game, with his second brace coming June 19 vs. Portland. He is also one of two WSC players to start every league game this season (Kyle Evans is the other).
Guezen is second on the team in scoring with seven goals, and was voted Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after recording a pair of goals in his side’s victory against Sarasota Paradise on April 8. The Dutch midfielder recorded his first two-goal game for the club against Sarasota, striking twice in the second half to lead his side to a 2-0 win. Guezen’s goal vs Charlotte earlier in the season just 45 seconds into the match was the fastest in club history.
Jonathan Jiménez was selected to the USL Bench this week as well.
The club visits Knoxville on Sunday looking to extend their streaks.
