Maybe all that was needed was a trip across the Hudson River. If that’s the case so be it, as Westchester Soccer Club completed one of the more unique weeks of the organizations two year USL League One existence, defeating the New York Cosmos 2-1 at Hincliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ in both record-setting and dramatic fashion.
Midfielder Conor McGlynn found the back of the new eight minutes into second half stoppage time to break the tie and give WSC their first road win since a 2-1 win at Forward Madison on June 18 of 2025, snapping a 22 road match winless streak (0-16-6).
The goal was McGlynn’s 14th of the season, putting him back atop the League’s Golden Boot race, and breaking the league mark for a midfielder, which he had shared with Rafael Mentzingen, who had 13 for North Carolina FC in the 2023 season. He is also now three short of the club mark for goals in a season, set last year by J.C. Obregon’s with 17.
WSC had taken the lead in first half stoppage time on Koen Blommestijn’s third goal in the last three matches, but Cosmos had knotted the score at 1-1, when Ajmeer Spengler beat Luca Marinelli to set up the late match dramatics.
The win was also WSC’s second this season decided by one goal, after going 1-10 in their previous 11 one goal decisions. It was also their second straight over the Cosmos, following a 3-0 win on July 22.
WSC is now off until next Sunday, when they travel to Knoxville.
