WSC Extends Winning Streak: Dean Guezen had the first two goal night of his young career, finding the back of net first off a feed from Jonathan Jimenez and then off a rebound of a Kyle Evans shot, both in the second half, as WSC (2-2-1 USL League One, 2-0 US Open Cup) rolled to their second straight home win, blanking Sarasota Paradise 2-0 last Wednesday night in Mt. Vernon. WSC dominated most of the game despite being down a man after Max Jennings was issued a second yellow card and was ejected from the match in the 61st minute just after WSC had broken on top. Guezen then beat keeper Alexander Sutton to extend to a 2-0 advantage in the 61st minute, to extend a WSC lead they did not relinquish. Andrew Hammersley turned in another solid game in goal for WSC, as one of the league leaders in saves at this early going faced 10 shots, turning back three to notch his first clean sheet of his career in USL League One play, and second of the season (including a shutout of NY Renegades in US Open Cup).
In US Open Cup: Tuesday will mark the second straight season WSC has advanced to the third round of Lamar Hunt US Open Cup play, and will be their first match against in MLS club in their brief history. In 2026, they have defeated NY Renegades 2-0 at home on March 19 and prevailed over defending USL League Two Champion Vermont Green 4-3 in penalties in Burlington, Vermont on April 1. It was the first match in club history decided on penalties. The match was scoreless through the extra session, with keeper Matias Molina recording his first-ever clean sheet. Last season WSC went 2-1 in US Open Cup, posting their first-ever club win, 1-0 over FC Motown in Montclair, NJ on March 18 and following that up by beating the New York Pancyprian Freedoms 3-2 at The Stadium at Memorial Field, on April 2. In the third match, they dropped a 3-1 decision to Detroit City FC IN Hamatrack, Michigan.
Early Season Honors: WSC placed four members on the USL League One Team of the week last week, the first time in club history, following their 5-1 home win over Corpus Christi, the most goals scored in their short club history. They were: D – Noah Powder, (Edison, NJ) : The Trinidad and Tobago international recorded one assist and recorded 39 of 44 passes while winning 3 of 4 ground duels and making four recoveries, two interceptions and three clearances in Westchester’s victory against Corpus Christi. M – Conor McGlynn, (Middle Village, NY) : The 27-year-old scored a pair of goals and completed 35 of 37 passes while making six clearances, two interceptions and two recoveries in Westchester’s 5-1 victory against Corpus Christi FC. McGlynn now has four goals in league games, which is atop the scoring table in the early going. Saturday was his first two goal game of his career, and M – Jonathan Jiménez, (Jiquilpan, Mexico): The 24-year-old scored once and notched two shots overall while completing 28 of 33 passes, recording one chance created and winning one penalty kick in WSC’s club-record victory against Corpus Christi FC. Additionally George Gjokajwas named Coach of the Week for his first career USL League One win.
McGlynn, Guezen Burst Through: WSC’s early season growth has been fueled by its young players, as both midfielders Conor McGlynn (Middle Village, NY) and Dean Guezen (Amsterdam, Netherlands) continue to emerge as the leaders on the young WSC squad. Both now have four goals in league games, which are atop the scoring table in the early going. Guezen’s two goal match against Sarasota was the first of his USL career, while McGlynn’s at home vs Corpus Christi in the prior match was his first two goal game.
Quick Turns At Home: Tuesday marks the third of four home matches in a five match stretch, with a match at expansion Boise in between on April 18. Seven of their last 10 home matches have been decided by one goal.
Youngest, Fastest and First: The early season has brought WSC some new milestones. Dean Guezen’s goal vs Charlotte just 45 seconds into the match was the fastest in club history, while Kyle Evans became the youngest goalscorer in club history with his stoppage-time finish against One Knoxville in the opener, notching his first professional goal aged 20 years, 146 days old, surpassing the mark of Ermin Mackic (20 years, 174 days). Andrew Hammersley also notched his first career clean sheet against NY Renegades in US Open Cup play and Matias Molina matched it with a clean sheet at Vermont in Round Two.

Close Shaves Still Cut Deep: The one goal loss in the opener to Knoxville continued a pattern for WSC from their inaugural season, when they went 2-14-7 when they entered the second 45 either tied or behind and were 2-11 in one goal w/l decisions. WSC’s longest winless streak (excluding their 3-0 forfeit win over Spokane on July 16) was a 12 match streak which started after a 2-1 win at Forward Madison on June 18 and ended with a 2-1 win over Texoma on Sept. 21. That stretch included six one goal losses and three ties.
New Faces Make Debuts: Westchester Soccer Club has a decidedly young and local look in 2026 as new Head Coach and General Manager George Gjokaj has at least 14 athletes with local roots on the potential opening day roster. Four newcomers…Maximus Jennings (Montclair, NJ/Georgetown), Daniel Burko (Løvenstad, Norway/Hofstra), Charlie Dickerson (Norwich, England/Providence) and Kyle Evans (Rock Hill, NY/Marist),…have started all four USL League One matches thus far.

The 10 newcomers join 14 returnees on the WSC preseason roster. Amongst the returning players, Goalkeeper Andrew Hammersley (Garden City, NY/Sacred Heart), Defender Noah Powder (Edison, NJ), Midfielder Conor McGlynn (Middle Village, NY/Siena College), and Forwards Ermin Mackic (Yonkers NY/SUNY Purchase), and Samory Powder (Edison, NJ) also have ties to the New York area.
