Conor McGlynn recorded the first multi-goal game of his career, opening the scoring on a converted penalty 16 minutes into the match and following that up with a thirty yard volley in the 65th minute past keeper James Talbot as WSC recorded its first win of the 2026 season, downing expansion Corpus Christi FC 5-1 in Mt. Vernon on Saturday night. The five goals are the most WSC has recorded in a match in their two year history, one more than the 4 they had in a 4-4 draw vs. Richmond last season.

Jonathan Jimenez’s first goal of the season just two minutes after McGlynn’s penalty, off a nifty pass from Kyle Evans put WSC up 2-0 before Enock Kwakwa beat keeper Matias Molina in five minutes of stoppage time right before the break to cut the lead to 2-1.

However WSC controlled play a majority of the second half, and McGlynn’s second score gave WSC a two goal cushion they would not relinquish. They extended the lead to 5-1 as the match went on, with Ermin Mackic finding the net in the 77th minute off a feed from Noah Powder and Dean Guezen followed up with the final tally just five minutes later off a pass from Tim Timchenko, for his first career assist. WSC got a number of players back from injury and international play for the match including Timchenko and Noah Powder, and the increased depth for George Gjokaj’s squad was key as the club starts a breakneck stretch of four matches in the next 14 days (three at home, including the just added third round US Open Cup match against NYCFC on April 14).
WSC returns to action at home Wednesday, facing their second consecutive expansion club Sarasota Paradise, at 7 p.m.
